Jake Fischer serves as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller. In this role, he supports the Assistant Secretary of the Army (FM&C) in overseeing the Army’s budget, financial management, resource allocation, and comptrollership functions. He serves as a senior advisor on matters related to budgeting, strategy, financial management, and enterprise transformation.

Prior to assuming this position, Fischer served as special assistant to the Secretary of the Army and held assignments within the Secretary of the Army’s Strategic Initiatives Group, the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. In these roles, he advised senior leaders on strategic priorities, organizational transformation, workforce modernization, and enterprise-wide initiatives affecting the Total Army.

Before entering federal service, Fischer built a career spanning management consulting, technology, and public-sector transformation. As a consultant, he advised public and private sector organizations on strategy, operations, and organizational effectiveness. He later led initiatives focused on go-to-market strategy, operating model design, and business transformation. Throughout his private-sector career, he worked with government agencies and Fortune 500 companies to improve organizational performance and mission outcomes.

Fischer previously served in the United States Army as an Emergency Medical Sergeant assigned to the 8th Forward Surgical Team at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and graduated from both Airborne School and Ranger School.

He holds an Associate of Arts degree in Political Science from Sierra College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Affairs from Yale University.

He resides in the National Capital Region with his wife and their two young children.
