Marc E. Andersen is the 18th Assistant Secretary of the Army, Financial Management and Comptroller (FM&C), sworn in on Oct. 15, 2025, following his nomination by President Donald J. Trump and confirmation by the United States Senate.
As Assistant Secretary, Mr. Andersen serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Army and Army senior leadership on all matters relating to budgeting, financial management, comptrollership, and fiscal strategy. He oversees one of the largest financial management organizations in the federal government and helps steward an annual budget exceeding $185 billion to ensure the Army’s resources are aligned to build readiness, modernize the force, strengthen deterrence, and enable Soldiers to fight and win the nation’s wars.
Mr. Andersen is leading the modernization of Army financial management to strengthen readiness, enhance fiscal stewardship, improve decision advantage, and accelerate the delivery of capability to Soldiers. His leadership reflects a commitment to ensuring the Army is resourced not only for today’s missions, but also for tomorrow’s challenges.
Prior to his appointment he held executive leadership roles within venture capital and advisory firms focused on leading and advising strategic investments in defense and dual-use technologies.
Mr. Andersen spent more than two decades at a major global professional services firm, retiring as a Senior Partner Emeritus. During his distinguished tenure, he founded the firm's U.S. Federal Consulting practice and served in key executive roles, including Government & Public Sector Leader for the Americas, U.S. Strategy, Brand & Communications Leader, and Senior Global Client Service Partner. In these capacities, he advised many of the organization's largest public and private sector clients through periods of significant growth, transformation, and innovation. Earlier in his career, he served as Managing Partner at an international accounting and consulting firm and co-founded a successful software and services company.
Throughout his career, Mr. Andersen has worked at the intersection of government, business, finance, and technology—building organizations, leading transformation, and forging partnerships that advance both public purpose and economic growth. His deep experience spans defense, national security, dual-use technology, artificial intelligence, venture capital, private equity, telecommunications, banking, capital markets, and corporate governance.
Mr. Andersen has also served as a Commissioner on the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, a Trustee of the Virginia Veterans Services Foundation, and an Honorary Commander of the United States Air Force’s 89th Airlift Wing.
